Autograft or Allograft

After 10+ years of playing hurt, i finally decided to get a MRI exam on my right knee.  As it turns out.... i have a "almost" torn ACL.  I guess I can say good bye to sports for at least 6months...the doctor was actually pretty shocked that I was still able to play all the sports.
If you have any experience or advise regarding an ACL surgery, I would love to hear about it.

Here is the report from my MRI exam:

Technique:
The following sequences were performed of the right knee:

o       Axial, Proton Density Fat Sat

o       Coronal T1, T1 Inversion Recovery sequences

o       Sagittal Proton Density, Sagittal T2

Impression:

1.      HIGH GRADE NEAR COMPLETE TEAR OF THE MID TO PROXIMAL ACL. THIS TEAR MAY BE OLD AS THERE IS LITTLE ASSOCIATED EDEMA AND ONLY SMALL EFFUSION

2.      POSTERIOR HORN MEDIAL MENISCUS TEAR INVOLVING THE PERIPHERAL THIRD, WITH EXTENSION TO THE INFERIOR SURFACE ASSOCIATED MENISCOCAPSULAR SEPARATION IS NOTED

3.      SMALL JOINT EFFUSION

Findings:

Menisci: There is an irregular diffuse area of increased T2 signal in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus involving the peripheral third with extension to the inferior articular margin and peripheral surface. No displaced fragments are evident. The lateral meniscus appears normal

Ligaments and Tendons: There is a high grade partial thickness ACL tear with complete tear of the anterolateral bundle which is noted lying along the tibial eminence. The posteromedial segment apperar to have a few intact fibers. The posterior cruciate ligament appears normal. The medial and lateral collateral ligaments are intact, though there is heterogeneous increased T2 signal between the peripheral margin of the medial meniscus and MCL, consistent with meniscocapsular separation. The patellar tendon is unremarkable.

Bony and Articular Structures: Mild trabecular edema is noted along the peripheral medial margin of the medial tibial plateau. No hyaline cartilage thinning or subchondral bony changes are evident. The later compartment appears normal.

Patellofemoral Joint: The patella is in normal position with respect to the intercondylar groove. The patellar cartilage and retinacula appear normal. A small joint effusion is present.

*Pray* that I can get through 6months without sports..... the last time I try to rehab my knee only lasted 5 weeks before going all out again.

forever in debt

Rachel and I got the idea of buying a house sometime in the beginning of 2006.  In April 2006, we had our first attempt to win the rights to a house with Pulte.  (had like 10 people over at 8:30am with as many cellphones as we can find to fight for the first come first serve phone lottery)  In May 2006, we lost out on the lottery because we hung up at the 8:59:58 mark. (it starts at 9:00:00 and when I went in to check we were the first one above the cut off mark)  We thought we had the system beat, but only to end again with disappointments.

In January 2007 (after our engagement), Rachel and I finally got the rights to purchase a townhouse at Pulte

On April 10th, 2007, Rachel and I received the keys to our first home!

Thanks to all who helped us jamming up the lottery phone line!

Rachel and I are still in shocked that we are able own a home, praise God!

Taiwan part 3

Here are more pictures to our trip...  (I'm excited that I get to go home today)

I was able to eat about 5-6 different beef stew noodles here.  GOOD stuff.  Here is a picture of one.

Here is a cake from a street vender.  Don't know what it is called, but its very good

We went back to my old house (which got torn down and replaced by a new complex) however the super market was still there.  Got to go in and check it out.  The good old chicken is still there

Here is one of the sao bean yao tao vender.  Good stuff!!

Eric this is for you!!  I don't recall the last time I ate at McD, but here I'm in Taiwan "forced" to go to one.  They do have something really unique though.  Rice buns instead of bread and their chicken is with dark meat =)

Got to visit my elementary school as well

There are tons of scooters here, I tried to convince my cousin to let me drive one... no luck =)

The trip will never be complete without eating at a street vender at the street market

Taiwan part 2

We had a family gathering last night.  Got to meet some of my cousins for the first time.  Here is a picture of everyone.  This is the first time in 20years where all 6 siblings on my mom side got together.
